Tented Michigan Wedding

As a part of my workshop, this tented Michigan wedding editorial was the focal point of the entire week. I was lucky to host an incredible retreat-based photography workshop in September of 2022 with the most amazing group of women and vendors.

Overall, the workshop was a mix of education as well as content creation. From the sailboat engagement session, to the late nights chatting by the fire, connections were made, content was created, and incredible breakthroughs in businesses happened. I’m so proud of my attendees and what they are putting in place moving forward in 2023!

As for the design,

the planner and designer Abby Mckinney wanted to garnish inspiration from Michigan sunsets over the water. Deep oranges, blues, reds, and pinks are the cornerstone to this modern yet coastal-inspired wedding design. In addition to the inspiration, the use of blacks black chairs and colorful florals is a wonderful juxtaposition against the private property it sits upon.

Markedly, Michigan sunsets are famous. Hosting an event that perches amongst a sailcloth tent that overlooks the lake is something couples dream of. With the right vendor team, it can be a reality. Kaytee with Roots Floral Design created an epic double floral arch that incorporates an incredible mix of floral ingredients that complement Abby’s overall design flawlessly.

Ashley with Ashley Frye Studio also used the waves of Michigan lakes as an inspiration to the invitation suite she hand-created for the event. She also built on-sight the incredibly unique seating chart that ties the entire vision together. This piece was a show-stopper that photographed beautifully against the sunset.

In addition to the design, the models are a real couple! Michigan natives, they understand and love the slow-paced nature of northern Michigan. They were so excited to showcase their love for me and the attendees! Beauty was done by Shani with Canvas and Coif. She opted for a sleek hair and makeup look to complement the more overflowing and feminine gown. The peach tones in her makeup was also meant to highlight the overall design of the wedding and fit in perfectly.
